Everyday we gain knowledge and understanding of the affect our lifestyle has on the earth and its limited resources. As a result, one of the greatest challenges we face today is to build a livable and sustainable world. Sustainable development is a relatively new approach to construction that involves and weighs the benefits of the economic, social and environmental aspects of a building. Our philosophy is that the time is now and the responsibility is ours to embrace these “eco-friendly” and “green” design approaches and to put the knowledge, creativity, and passion we possess to work to build a better tomorrow.
Polaris is a member of the United States Green Building Council (www.usgbc.org) and one of the principals is a LEEDtm accredited professional. Our staff is committed to working with our clients to design building systems which meet their goals. We also have been increasing our own awareness of both the technical issues involving sustainable building concepts and the issues relative to the economics of implementing them into our clients’ projects. And oftentimes the avoidance of unnecessary generation of waste is a fundamental preference by building owners or those like us with a passion for sustainable design. Polaris brings to the table an understanding of strategies of waste management, experience in adaptive reuse of historical buildings, and sensitivity to preservation of building components of historical significance.
